Derek Nickell is a product manager at Teradek who is driving forward the development and creation of IP and RF Live Production hardware. In his position at Teradek, he is responsible for product direction, development, and innovation of new technical solutions to better serve live production workflows. Prior to Teradek, Nickell served as a technical director and creative technologist for live broadcast events, activations, and fixed installations integrating video hardware, software, IoT, AR, and various other technical mediums.

Nickell’s engineering and management background comes from his work with Tier 1 government contractors, General Dynamics Information Technology, and L3 Communications, as well as his time serving six years of service in the U.S. Navy as an electronics technician. In these positions, he managed teams of technical integrators for the Ballistic Missile Defense System, Navy Cash, and special projects that supported the U.S. Navy, SPAWAR, and the DoD.

In addition to attending multiple electronics and RF engineering schools in the Navy, Nickell attended college for computer science while living in San Diego and cinema production at Portland State University after moving to the Pacific Northwest. Nickell currently resides in Portland, OR.
